Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
A culture grounded by the principle of Sempre Avanti (Always Forward) fuels our Continuous Improvement and Lean Initiatives that further increases value for our valued clients.
To disregard efficiency and continuous improvement measures would be a disservice to both customer and community. Lean Manufacturing & 5S initiatives are second-nature to us at KMS. If an idea proves to be more efficient as little as a few seconds while not jeopardizing safety & quality, then we do it. For example, garbage bins are mounted up off the floor for sweeping efficiency and kaizen foam is installed in all tooling drawers to avoid time looking for otherwise scattered tools.
A very common and frequent compliment we receive from visitors is how clean and organized our facility is. While this is simply part of our culture and routine activities, we do appreciate the recognition and communicate it at our weekly tool box meetings.
Our Team
The only way to produce great things is with great people who enjoy their job, so we make sure we hire the best; highly skilled and certified professionals who are dedicated to their trade, quality workmanship and excellent customer service.
We’re a team with a unique mix of skills and we pride ourselves on our expertise as well as our distinct Company culture. No matter which department we’re in or how large our team grows, we all share a passion for excellence and are accountable to each other in a family-like atmosphere.
We are consistent in honing our crafts as a commitment to our customers in today’s market, providing exceptional workmanship and superior service.
Simply put…we are here to help, we enjoy the diversity of requests, and we get the job done.
Company History
Founder, Dave Kuhl, enjoys helping others. His dedication to this, coupled with recognizing a need in the community led him to a pivotal decision in 1989. Dave resigned from a secure Millwright position and began a modest Machine Shop while continuing to operate his 4th generation family farm. From a small 300 sq ft shed beside his house, Dave opened the door for business with himself as the lone staff member and a few pieces of simple equipment to serve the local farming community. Dave’s conscientious effort to build lasting relationships with customers and his drive to expand the Company’s offerings were key elements for the future of KMS. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The dedication to helping others has not changed over 30 years, but many other things have. The 300 square feet of work space is now over 25000, the few simple pieces of equipment have been replaced with multiple modern high-tech machines, and Dave now works alongside many valuable teammates all sharing the same dedication to help by serving numerous industries and communities. The small shed where it all began still sits just across the yard and it’s always interesting to hear reactions when that piece of the history is learned.
But it really doesn’t matter that we’ve been around for 30 years, have built a new facility, and survived recessions. While history is important, it’s what we do today that matters most to our customers, and we realize that.
