Welder - Fabricator

WHO WE NEED:

We are looking for an experienced, skilled Welder/Fabricator. The successful candidate will be an ambitious, self-managed team player who takes ownership of their role towards continuous improvement and wants to succeed in making a difference within an organization.  This person will also have opportunity to earn further certifications according to ambition and skill level.

Applicants with entry level experience and appropriate level of education may be considered and training provided.

ROLE SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Welder/Fabricator is responsible for safe work practices to produce quality parts/repairs using various cutting, shaping and welding equipment reviewing drawings, instructions or samples to ensure accurate production.  This position provides a unique and diverse experience as we are a custom build-to-order job shop, not a production facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work to the requirements of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and N299.3 Quality Assurance Program
  • Maintain safe work practices
  • Adhere to schedule priorities
  • Keep equipment/work area clean and orderly using 5S and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding (OAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW)
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
  • Operate profile cutting equipment such as plasma & waterjet
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brake, shear, bandsaw, ironworker, etc.
  • Operate forklift and lifting devices – training/certification provided
  • Operate hand and bench grinders
  • Study and interpret mechanical drawings, specs and measurements
  • Plan layouts (with minimal supervision as required), set up/fit components for welding
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
  • Report damages on machines and equipment
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure for possible flaws
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify error/out of tolerance
  • Conduct repairs, modifications and retrofits
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues
  • Other assigned duties as required
KNOWLEDGE / EDUCATION:
  • GED or equivalent
  • Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets preferred
  • Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), preferred – training/certification provided as required
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines/ tools including design, use, repair/maintenance
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
  • Welding experience with steel, aluminum and stainless or similar role
  • Competent fitting and welding (flat, vertical and overhead)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and welding process specifications
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools
  • Steady hands, good hand-eye coordination
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations

CNC Machinist Programmer / Setup / Operator

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work to the requirements of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and N299.3 Quality Assurance Program
  • Maintain safe work practices
  • Adhere to schedule priorities
  • Keep equipment/work area clean and orderly using 5S and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Program, set up and/or operate machining equipment – training provided
  • Operator CNC Bridge and Boring Mills, Lathes, cutting equipment
  • Operate hand and bench grinders
  • Operate forklift and lifting devices – training/certification provided
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
  • Verify dimensions for accuracy and conformance to specifications using calibrated measuring tools
  • Detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machine
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
  • Other assigned work as required
KNOWLEDGE / EDUCATION:
  • GED or equivalent
  • Journeyman / Red Seal CNC Machinist certification preferred
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of industry machines/ tools including design, use, repair/maintenance
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
  • CNC Programming and Operating experience
  • Understand G-code
  • Knowledge to create, edit and test programs in Gibbs Cam
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings/measurements
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use power and hand tools.
